One thing I have learned in photography (and life) is that you will never be done learning. Which is why I am always doing workshops, online classes, print competitions and currently studying to become a Certified Pro Photographer by the PPA (Professional Photographers of America), which is not an easy thing to do!. Last month I had the opportunity to attend an in-person workshop in Atlanta with the amazingly talented Julia Kelleher of Jewel Images out of Oregon. In this 2-day workshop, we discussed our businesses, our goals, and had a whole day of photographing adorable newborns and their parents.
Here are a few of the images I captured during the workshop. Julia walked us all through her approach to styling and lighting a newborn session as she set up the poses and we had the chance to photograph these cuties 🙂 Then we had the chance to direct the parents ourself for some photos as well. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much!
Images styles and lit by Julia and photographed by me 🙂
And speaking of print competitions, last year I entered the PPA’s International Print Competition for the first time. A panel of 43 eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from more than 5,000 total submitted entries. Judged against a standard of excellence, just over 2,100 images were selected for the General Collection, and I’m so proud that two (of my 4 entered) images were selected! While I was in Atlanta, I attended the PPA conference and expo and was able to see my images on display. I have just submitted my 4 images for this year’s district competition and judging will be next week!! I cannot share those images yet (and possibly not until June if they make it to the next level again), but here are my images from last year:
“Experience This” (Frank Gehry’s Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington)
and “Ride to the Sky”
